K-Electric customers no longer have to bring cash, or stand in bank lines in order to pay their monthly bill.

The utility has implemented and launched a new facility for cashless payments to make the process of bill payments easier and quicker. The Customer Care Centres are now open to allow customers to pay immediately with a debit or credit card at select locations.

These centres are equipped with Point of Sale (POS) machines through which the payments are made. It is compatible with various major card networks such as PayPak, Mastercard, Visa and UnionPay.

The idea behind K-Electric is a simple to put an end to the need to carry cash or wait in line at payment outlets, including banks, to pay for electricity bills. POS payments are created to be quick and secure.

This was part of its drive to embrace modern, digital-first customer service, the company said. The shift to cashless and digital payment options is designed to simplify, clarify and time bill payments in total, it said.

It is not the first time that K-Electric is moving into digital payments. Over the last couple of years, the utility has been developing ties with over 40 institutions and has provided cashbacks, as well as several digital payment options to its customers.

That effort is having an impact on the number of adoptions. About 70 percent of all K-Electric customers have never been to a bank branch to pay their bills.

There are digital solutions available, such as KE Live App, KE WhatsApp Self-Service Portal, and online payments via the KE website. Payments can also be made through ATMs located over 14,000 across the country, 1BILL kiosks and mobile wallets like JazzCash and Kuickpay.

The new in-branch POS card payment option is a physical, manned option to this growing digital offering, for those paying in the branch who want to pay in person, not online or via a mobile app.

For a city this size and population size, with K-Electric providing power to more than 3.5 million people across a 6,500-square-kilometre network, it does make a lot of sense for people to have a quick and secure method to pay without handling cash, especially if they are hesitant to carry a huge amount of cash themselves.

K-Electric follows a trend of its steadily increasing cashing options for customers, with the goal of making cash payments the exception not the rule at its customer service points.
