Turn a UTC announcement into your local time

Event announcements are easier to follow when the timezone is clear. Enter the event date and clock time in UTC, then choose the timezone you want to see. The tool converts that same instant rather than assuming the entered time is already local.

One instant, different clocks

For example, 12:00 UTC is 17:00 in Karachi and 21:00 in Tokyo. The date matters for locations with daylight saving rules, which is why this tool asks for a date as well as a time.

Check the announcement before converting

If the announcement gives a time in another timezone, first obtain its UTC equivalent. Typing a local time into the UTC field shifts the event to a different instant.

The result includes a small timezone table and an optional one hour calendar event. The one hour length is a convenience of the download, not an official duration for your event. Check that your calendar app displays the imported time as expected.

Questions about Event Time Converter

Why do I need to enter the date?

Timezone offsets can depend on the date. The browser uses its timezone database for that conversion.

Does the tool know when an event starts?

No. You supply the date and UTC time from the announcement.

Can the local date be different from the UTC date?

Yes. A time conversion can move the displayed clock past midnight into the next or previous local date.
