According to the source, Halo Studios is not currently active on a campaign or multiplayer project, so it’s unlikely developing a new game.
The claim is from content creator Rebs Gaming, which states that the information came from a direct source, and was later confirmed by a couple other sources. None of it is been officially confirmed by either Microsoft or Halo Studios.
The report states that the original game timeline was to be three games on three years. The lineup was supposed to begin with Unreal Engine 5 remake of Halo, Campaign Evolved, which is set to launch in a little more than a week.
According to sources, both of the other projects have been cancelled.
One of them was Project Ekur, a multiplayer game that changed hands a number of times in its development. It was said to have begun as a battle royale and changed to an extraction shooter before it was converted back to a battle royale and then cancelled.
The second was a new mainline campaign, which had been known as Halo. The studio reportedly had difficulty finding a vision for the project, and it was never able to attract a director, resulting in the project being placed on hold and shelved.
According to the report, Halo Studios is now without a new campaign or multiplayer game in proper development with the two projects being dropped. The only concepts that are reportedly left are in early stages.
Studio leaders decided to cancel Ekur when Campaign Evolved developed into a mess, putting the focus now on getting that remake back on track, Rebs Gaming says. Leaders reportedly had too much on their plate when they were required to manage various large-scale projects at the same time.
Other rumoured projects are also raised questions in the report. There is some uncertainty regarding the planned remakes of Halo 2 and Halo 3, which have been previously reported as being in “active early development” in May of 2026. There is no word on a long rumored Halo MMO, with the report stating that no one involved in the games has heard of it inside.
Halo Infinite was launched back in 2021. Even if Halo Studios did decide to greenlight a new mainline campaign today, the fact that it takes years to develop modern games means that it would probably still be years away from release.
A particularly long inter-film period for one of Xbox marquee games at a time when the studio re-brand and transition to Unreal 5 is being billed as the beginning of a more substantial period of multiple projects.
Top to boot to the confusion, separate reports last week came out about an ongoing lawsuit from current and former employees of Halo Studios and their allegations of mismanagement at the helm of the studio by Pierre Hintze. It has since been revealed that the claims were substantiated by other sources in other publications, in reference to the studio.
There is a risk that Halo Studios could be going through a layoff as Campaign Evolved is set to ship and with some reports that the studio is considering content for that remake as a means to ensure content keeps coming in as they work out what it will actually be.
All this has yet to be answered to in public by Microsoft or Halo Studios. Once Campaign Evolved is released, it will be interesting to see how the studio will plan for the future.
